I have been fascinated with birds since I was a child, learning their names from a guidebook and observing them in the field.

In Florida, the variety of birds is amazing. I live near a lake and I sketch the waders and divers, including wood storks, herons, egrets, ibises, anhingas, ducks, and geese, as well as the raptors (bald eagles, owls, osprey, and hawks) that pass through.

In the winter, migrating species fly through the area and for the past couple of winters, a whooping crane or two spends several months in the vicinity.
